What Pornhub’s report
can teach us about society

Pornhub delved into the data from billions of visits to see what content defined 2022. And with Porn sites attracting more visitors each month than Amazon, Netflix, and Twitter combined, Pornhubs yearly report is definitely worth taking a look at.

One of the findings that caught our eye was the insane increase in searches around “reality”. The reality category grew by +169%, while “real homemade” searches grew by +179% worldwide and +310% in the U.S. Driven by the growth of amateur performers (nod to Onlyfans and financial independence) and audience interest in the ‚real‘.  Over the past year searches with real people grew by 42% with the most popular searches being „real orgasms“, „real couples“ and „real massage“. This interest is driven by women, who view reality porn 37% more than men.

In our increasingly egalitarian society, also regarding the topic of sex, it doesn’t come as a surprise to us that porn which long has been seen as a male domain, is gaining more traction among women as well and that more content is being produced that ties into their wishes. An additional driver for this increase in searches around reality is that younger generations more often look for real and authentic content, instead of the perfectly curated, plastic fake-ness.
