Stop rushing to reach all your goals before your forties, and take a moment to listen to the seniors at the “Grandma is an influencer” panel at SXSW. From teaching yoga twice a week through Zoom, to building a startup at the age of 79. Getting older, seniors say, opens up a whole new world of opportunities.
Panelist Han (83) created a system called “Are you Okay Today”. Instead of asking you to buy privacy violating devices or apps, this system learns from the electronic products you already use during the day. If there’s an anomaly in your daily routine a loved one gets notified. A brilliant example that illustrates how seniors create solutions in which they keep control of their own lives and privacy.
How can you stay relevant in an “ageing” world as brand?
For the first time in history, there are more people over 64 than children younger than 5 worldwide. With more time for themselves, a bunch of life experience, and often still in good health, seniors like Han are living their second youth. Brands can become relevant in reflecting what their lives really look like nowadays. Focus on the gifts of getting older. Compared to younger generations, seniors can filter out a lot of bullshit and enjoy what there is to enjoy. Good times ahead!
